Accusation of sexual assault against government worker, alleged to have strangled a woman discovered on dating platform
Senior Government Advisor Charged with Multiple Domestic Violence Offenses Against Women
Daniel McCluskie, a senior adviser to the federal government, is set to appear before Parramatta Local Court on Saturday, following his arrest and charging with a series of domestic violence-related offenses against women.
The charges against McCluskie, who works for the Australian Digital Health Agency, were announced in July. He was accused of 15 offenses spanning a three-year period, including eight counts of sexual intercourse without consent and three counts of choking without consent against women.
Prosecutor Rob Kury expressed concerns about McCluskie's behavior being coercive-controlling throughout his relationships with the women. However, McCluskie's barrister, Rebecca Mitchell, has claimed that police have provided little evidence for the charges. According to Mitchell, there is no medical evidence of the alleged sexual crimes and no digital files to support the charge of recording an intimate image without consent against women.
McCluskie was arrested by detectives in Sydney's inner west at 7.40pm on Friday. He was taken to Burwood Police Station and refused bail. He was also forced to forfeit his passport and is banned from leaving New South Wales or entering any international port of departure from Australia.
In addition to the offenses from 2018 to 2021 against women, McCluskie is also accused of choking a 52-year-old woman he met on a dating app last March. He is also charged with additional domestic violence offenses against women, including two counts of stalking and intimidation, intentionally recording an intimate image without consent, and detaining a person with intent to obtain advantage. The alleged offenses occurred between 2021 and 2023 in various locations, including Melbourne and Surfers Paradise.
However, there is no information in the search results about the women on whom Daniel McCluskie allegedly committed violence or abducted. No comment has been received from the Australian Digital Health Agency regarding the new charges against McCluskie.
McCluskie was previously pictured in grey tracksuit pants during his arrest in July. He is scheduled to appear before Parramatta Local Court on Saturday.
