Thousands of window air conditioners are being pulled from Canadian market due to mould hazard warning issued by Health Canada.

Air Quality Alert: Over 46,000 window air conditioners are subject to a recall in Canada due to potential mold exposure, as announced by Health Canada.

These air conditioners, specifically the U and U+ models manufactured by Midea, have been sold under various brands such as Midea, Comfort Aire, Danby, Frigidaire, Insignia, Keystone, LBG Products, Mr. Cool, Perfect Aire, and Sea Breeze.

The joint recall, also backed by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (USCPSC) and GD Midea Air-Conditioning Equipment, was initiated due to pooled water in the air conditioners failing to drain quickly enough, which might cause mold growth. Exposure to this mold poses risks of respiratory issues or other infections.

The affected units were sold between March 2020 and May 2025. For the comprehensive list of affected model numbers, visit Health Canada's website.

Though there have been no reported health issues in Canada, Midea has received five reports of mold found in the units. In the U.S., the company has encountered 152 reports of mold, including 17 cases where consumers reported respiratory symptoms possibly linked to mold exposure.

Health Canada advises consumers to reach out to the company for a free repair or refund, the details of which will depend on the purchase or manufacture date. Canadian customers can visit the Government of Canada's recall website for more information or contact Midea for assistance with affected units.

Hold onto your units, folks! It's time to get that mold sorted out.

  1. The recall of certain air conditioner models, including those from Midea and other brands, is being conducted due to a potential mold issue that could lead to respiratory conditions and infections, posing a threat to mental and general health and wellness.
  2. The joint recall, which involves Health Canada, the USCPSC, and GD Midea Air-Conditioning Equipment, affects models sold between March 2020 and May 2025, and includes the U and U+ models specifically, positioned under health-and-wellness categories because of their role in indoor air quality.
  3. Consumers are advised to pay attention to the recalled medical-conditions-related products as mold growth in the units can lead to health issues such as respiratory problems and infections, emphasizing the importance of addressing this issue promptly for the sake of one's overall well-being.
