United Robots' Advance Local Weather Alerts service, in collaboration with the National Weather Service and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation at Albany, has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for Fine Particulates in Cayuga and Oswego counties. This advisory is a precautionary measure due to expected levels of ozone and fine particle (PM2.5) pollution exceeding a moderate health concern level.

The advisory urges residents to take necessary steps to reduce exposure to polluted air, particularly those in sensitive groups, such as children, the elderly, and individuals with respiratory or heart conditions.

Key Recommendations

  1. Stay Indoors: Limit outdoor activities as much as possible to minimise exposure to unhealthy outdoor air.
  2. Reduce Physical Activity: Sensitive groups should keep physical activity levels low while indoors during the advisory period.
  3. Follow Instructions: Adhere to any specific instructions provided by the advisory regarding air quality levels and precautions.

The advisory is in effect from 1:25 a.m. on Tuesday to midnight on Wednesday.

Pollution-inducing practices, such as driving cars, using gas-powered lawnmowers, or operating other motorized vehicles, should be scaled back during the advisory period. Residents are also encouraged to avoid burning debris or any other materials during air quality alerts to prevent worsening of air quality.
