The UK is bracing for a significant increase in prostate cancer cases, with the number of diagnoses expected to rise by about 15% between 2023 and 2040[1]. This alarming trend has prompted the need for innovative solutions to improve patient outcomes and clinical efficiency.

Stepping up to the challenge is Camgenium, a UK-based technology company, with its groundbreaking cloud-based software platform and app, HealthiumPro. Developed in partnership with Professor Petre Cristian Ilie, a consultant urological and robotic surgeon, HealthiumPro aims to revolutionize prostate cancer care[1].

HealthiumPro offers a range of features designed to enhance safety and efficiency before and after prostate cancer surgery. Patients can now sign consent forms and access pre-surgery information remotely. The system also provides patients with recommended pre-surgical exercises and shares results with clinicians, ensuring a proactive approach to patient care[1].

Clinicians can remotely monitor patient vital signs such as blood pressure and temperature, improving safety and saving clinical time. The system also supports the automation of surgical notes with patient-specific variables correlated with reported outcomes, enhancing clinical documentation and decision-making[1].

HealthiumPro is built on the Xenplate platform, a modular, no-code software platform with built-in design tools. This means the system utilizes prebuilt regulatory compliant modules and drag-and-drop design methods, minimizing the need for bespoke coding[1].

Camgenium has received regulatory approval to host the HealthiumPro system on the NHS private network, HSCN, through its own data center. The system also includes the HealthiumPro Stent Register, which streamlines the logging and tracking of stent insertions to ensure their timely removal or exchange[1].

Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men in the UK, with approximately 55,000 new cases each year[1]. The collaboration between Camgenium and Dr. Ilie aims to ensure patient outcomes are improved and healthcare professionals can focus more on patients rather than administrative tasks.

Dr Ilie stated that HealthiumPro is developed to improve patient safety and outcomes, and to improve efficiencies in the hospital. Camgenium is honoured to have enabled the HealthiumPro system and looks forward to continuing its partnership and further developing the system in the future.

Currently, no national electronic stent register is used across the NHS, with some hospitals relying on paper-based logging with human oversight. HealthiumPro addresses this challenge by providing a digital solution that enhances patient safety and improves the management of ureteric stents[1].

The HealthiumPro system has already demonstrated improvements in patient care at the hospitals where it has been deployed. As the UK grapples with the rising tide of prostate cancer cases, HealthiumPro offers a beacon of hope for improved care and outcomes for patients.
