New Simplera Sync Sensor Enhances Medtronic's MiniMed 780G System

Medtronic, a global leader in medical technology, has announced the approval of the Simplera Sync sensor for use with its MiniMed 780G system. This sensor offers several key features that make it a valuable addition to the advanced insulin delivery system.

The Simplera Sync sensor provides continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) with a sensor life of up to 6 days, plus an additional 24-hour grace period for flexibility in sensor replacement. The sensor comes in an all-in-one inserter package, simplifying insertion with a smooth, firm, continuous motion, and is designed for user ease and convenience.

The sensor is approved for placement on the back of the upper arm, with clear guidelines to avoid interference from infusion sites or areas prone to friction or bending. This helps ensure reliable glucose readings. The system visually indicates sensor status via a Sensor Life Icon on the pump’s home screen, helping users track remaining sensor life and know when to replace it to maintain accurate glucose data.

The Simplera Sync sensor integrates seamlessly with the MiniMed 780G’s automated insulin delivery (AID) capabilities, which use real-time glucose data to adjust insulin dosing automatically. This reduces the manual burden on users and improves overall diabetes management.

The sensor’s design and integration support increasing CGM adoption rates and contribute to the MiniMed 780G system’s reputation for advanced, user-friendly glucose control. Global users consistently achieve time in range above international targets of 70% when using optimal settings with the MiniMed 780G system.

The MiniMed 780G system is already renowned for its Meal Detection technology, which helps users maintain glucose levels in range more often. It also works with the world's only infusion set that lasts up to 7 days, reducing the need for weekly infusion set changes.

With the approval of the Simplera Sync sensor, users of the MiniMed 780G system now have more flexibility for their advanced insulin delivery system. The limited launch of the Simplera Sync sensor will begin in the U.S. in the fall of 2025.

Medtronic Diabetes' EVP and president, Que Dallara, stated that they are committed to driving innovation for those living with diabetes. The introduction of the Simplera Sync sensor is a testament to this commitment, offering a reliable, easy-to-use, precise glucose monitoring solution that enhances the automation and effectiveness of the MiniMed 780G system for diabetes management.
