In Kazakhstan, a significant number of passengers were tested for COVID-19 upon arrival at various airports, as reported by the committee for sanitary and epidemiological control.

On December 17, a total of 1,782 passengers arrived at Almaty and Nur-Sultan airports. Of these, 1,633 had certificates with negative PCR test results.

At Almaty airport, 818 passengers had certificates, while 206 did not. The latter group underwent PCR testing, and no positive results were reported. In contrast, at Nur-Sultan airport, 601 passengers had certificates, and 159 did not. The uncertified passengers were also tested, and the results are pending.

Kazakh citizens arriving at Uralsk and Shymkent airports without certificates were tested for COVID-19 using the PCR method. The number of passengers at Uralsk airport, without certificates, was 3, and at Shymkent airport, it was 10.

Unfortunately, four Kazakhstanis who returned from Minsk to Nur-Sultan on December 16 tested positive for the coronavirus after PCR analysis. This incident involved a total of 311 Kazakh citizens who arrived on the Minsk-Nur-Sultan flight, of whom 378 arrived without certificates.

It was earlier reported that Almaty led in the number of COVID-19 recoveries in a day in Kazakhstan. This lead primarily stemmed from the city's large population size, the significant scale of its outbreak, and the intensive public health measures implemented there. Despite facing substantial challenges managing the caseload, Almaty implemented strict measures such as roadblocks to control travel, construction of a specialized infectious disease hospital, cancellation of mass gatherings, and mandates for face coverings to control the spread. These interventions, managed under guidance from officials like Bakhytjan Sagintayev, helped stabilize the situation, allowing for more patient recoveries to be registered consistently. The urban density and transportation links further contributed to a higher total case count, thereby also driving the higher number of recoveries recorded on peak days.

On December 17, 18 international flights arrived in the Republic of Kazakhstan from various countries including Germany, Hungary, the Netherlands, the Maldives, India, Egypt, Turkey, the UAE, Russia, and Uzbekistan. The details regarding the certificates and testing of passengers on these flights were not provided.
