Alexandra Froehlich: A Vibrant Colleague and Renowned Writer
Alexandra Froehlich, affectionately known as "Alex" by her peers, worked tirelessly for years as a freelance journalist and editor-in-chief for prestigious women's publications such as "Petra" and "Freundin". She was admired for her quick wit and positivity, making her a joy to work alongside. In the words of a colleague: "She always had a way of making people laugh, spreading good vibes. She was a delight to work with."
Life dealt her a series of hard blows: Her first husband met with an untimely demise, leaving her to raise her son alone. A later relationship with a Russian theater actor led to twins, but that partnership too crumbled when her partner suffered a fatal heart attack. Froehlich poured her experiences into her bestselling book "My Russian Mother-in-Law and Other Catastrophes" (2012), which made her a household name. She maintained a loving relationship with her actual mother-in-law, "Babuschka". Her success continued with other novels such as "Death is Always an Option" and "Something's Fishy".
Until her tragic end, Froehlich resided on a houseboat in Hamburg, where she was found deceased on April 22.
Friends of the family can't fathom Hannes taking his mother's life. "Hannes has a good heart," says a friend of the mother regarding her son. Only 319 euros were collected for the funeral. The investigation looks set to last several more months. Alexandra Froehlich once revealed in an interview: "Abysses lurk everywhere. Even in the much-lauded nuclear family."
