Barys Hockey Team Experiences Rise in Coronavirus Cases

Title: Hockey Club "Barys" Battles COVID-19 Outbreak, Impacts KHL Playoffs

Right off the bat, the sad news breaks - the number of coronavirus cases in the well-known hockey club "Barys" has shot up, as announced by the Ministry of Health's Bagdat Kodzhakhmetov. Almaty.tv and Vesti.kz report this unfortunate trend.

A week ago, reports surfaced that 12 players from the main squad had tested positive. Recent findings, however, reveal this number to be even higher. Kodzhakhmetov initially reported 11 cases, but more testing later unearthed another eight, bringing the total number of COVID-19-stricken athletes to 19.

Kodzhakhmetov commented, "Coronavirus outbreaks among work teams are cause for concern. On September 17, 40 people from the administration and hockey team 'Barys' underwent a preventive examination. 11 tested positive for COVID-19. The stadium was disinfected, and staff were briefed on anti-epidemic procedures. More close contacts were identified after a decree was issued by the chief state sanitary doctor of Nur-Sultan city. Inevitably, 29 of them were barred from entering the 'Barys Arena' stadium. However, during a follow-up examination on September 22, eight more infected team members were discovered."

Asymptomatic and undergoing outpatient treatment, the infected athletes will hopefully recover swiftly. Initially scheduled to return to the KHL playoffs on October 4, their home match against SKA was due for the arena. Yet, with the new cases revealed after the team went into isolation, the matches will be postponed for a few days.

Interestingly, while related news swirls in Canada regarding the NHL playoffs, no such sparks are seen in the KHL, largely due to the current pandemic disruptions.

  1. Bagdat Kodzhakhmetov, from the Ministry of Health, confirmed a significant increase in coronavirus cases within the hockey club "Barys" in Almaty, with a total of 19 athletes now infected.
  2. Kodzhakhmetov revealed that more testing unveiled eight additional cases of COVID-19 among players, after an initial report of 11 cases.
  3. The coronavirus outbreak within the "Barys" team has led to concerns, prompting strict measures such as stadium disinfection, anti-epidemic procedures briefings, and the prohibition of 29 staff members from entering the "Barys Arena" stadium.
  4. Despite being asymptomatic and receiving outpatient treatment, the infected athletes' recovery remains a priority in the realm of health-and-wellness and medical-conditions.
  5. With the latest coronavirus cases discovered within the team, the scheduled KHL playoffs matches involving "Barys" have been postponed, in contrast to the ongoing NHL playoffs in Canada, which are unaffected due to the pandemic disruptions.
