Belarus Bans Russian Spice Imports Over Safety Fails
Belarus has implemented strict food safety measures, with products undergoing rigorous microbiological testing before hitting store shelves. Recent findings have led to the ban of several Russian imports, including a ground cilantro product.
The 'Vygodno!' brand of ground cilantro, produced by Moscow's Slaviansky Pischekombinat, has failed microbial safety tests in Belarus. The product was found to contain mold content 4.5 times higher than the permitted limit, along with coliform bacteria and sulfite-reducing clostridia. Such failures often stem from improper production and storage conditions. This isn't an isolated incident; spices and teas are common culprits in such violations, often harboring yeast, mold, staphylococci, and salmonella. In response, Gosstandart has imposed a ban on the import and sale of these products in Belarus, effective October 7. The ban also extends to 'SP' company's grape vinegar from Mirny, which used an unacceptable dye.
The Belarusian food control system has demonstrated its commitment to safety, with strict testing and swift action against failed products. The ban on these Russian imports ensures the protection of Belarusian consumers, upholding the country's high food safety standards.
