broadened tomato withdrawal involves three producers across more than fourteen states
Fresh Tomato Recall Expands, Affecting More States
It's a worrisome situation once again with more fresh tomatoes being pulled from the shelves due to potential Salmonella contamination, as announced by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA). The latest recall involves four packs of tomatoes produced by Ray and Mascari, Inc., extending the reach to 14 states - including those previously affected and newly added ones such as Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
The recalled tomatoes from Ray and Mascari, Inc. are labeled as 4 Count Vine Ripe Tomatoes packed in plastic clamshell containers (20 oz. or 567g), bearing UPC# 7 96553 20062 1. The master case label features Lot# RM250424 15250B or Lot# RM250427 15250B. These tomatoes were sold in Gordon Food Service Stores across Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Wisconsin, and additional states like Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
Previous recall, affecting tomatoes in the aforementioned states, was for Williams Farms Repack, LLC and H&C Farms Tomatoes, all with lot codes R4467 or R4470[5].
Salmonella is a harmful bacteria that can lead to fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In extreme cases, it can enter your bloodstream and infect your arteries, heart, and even potentially cause death, particularly for young, elderly, and people with weakened immune systems[6]. Thankfully, as of now, no illnesses have been reported in association with the recall[1].

If you have tomatoes from either recall, it's advisable not to consume them and either discard them or return them to the store for a full refund. For inquiries regarding the Ray and Mascari recall, contact them at 1-317-637-0234, Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST[4]. For the Williams Farms Repack and H&C Farms recall, contact Jason Breland at 843-866-7707 or 843-599-5154, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST[2].
