Confirming Food Inspection in Gomel

==========================================================================

In the bustling markets of Gomel, Belarus, a series of sanitary and epidemiological violations have been uncovered by the city's authorities in 2025. These infractions, particularly prevalent in cafes within the marketplaces, were detected during thorough inspections by the sanitary and epidemiological service, with violations noted "almost everywhere" [1].

To tackle these issues, the sanitary and epidemiological authorities have been proactive, conducting comprehensive checks and likely enforcing corrective actions, although specific measures such as fines, closures, or mandatory improvements are not detailed in the available information.

The inspections, which covered 111 trading and catering objects on markets, revealed several concerning findings. In 38.8% of the inspected objects, food raw materials and products were stored in inappropriate conditions. Some establishments even had spoiled products stored alongside good ones, and products with signs of spoilage were sold to consumers [1].

Timely repair of equipment and premises was not carried out in 59.4% of cases, and in 45% of the inspected objects, products were sold without labeling or with incomplete information about the goods. A staggering 98.3% of the inspected objects had violations of mandatory sanitary and epidemiological requirements [1].

Violations of temperature regimes were found in 38.8% of cases, and the most common violations related to the transportation of food products accounted for 63.4% of cases. Thirty-five responsible persons were held administratively liable for the violations, and a total of 1.628 tons of food products were removed from sale due to violations [1].

Of the 68 orders issued by the head of the nutrition hygiene department, Tatiana Dashkevich, 46 were for the suspension of sales, 11 for the suspension of services, and two for the restriction of product range. Mandatory sanitary and hygienic examinations were not conducted in 57.2% of cases, and some inspected objects had products without documents confirming their quality and safety in circulation [1].

Unfortunately, not all objects rectified the violations in time, resulting in two administrative offense protocols being drawn up. Additionally, products with expired shelf life were found in circulation [1].

These findings underscore the importance of maintaining high sanitary and epidemiological standards in marketplaces to ensure the health and safety of consumers. The authorities' proactive approach is a positive step towards addressing these issues and improving the overall health and safety of the markets in Gomel.
