Customs, police, and food inspection agencies team up for coordinated action in Rheda-Wiedenbrück against food establishments and kiosks

The Bielefeld Main Customs Office, in collaboration with several other authorities, conducted a joint control action last Friday in Rheda-Wiedenbrück. This action aimed to uncover violations and crimes in catering establishments and kiosks.

During the inspections, several immediate notification violations regarding social security and alien law regulations were found in fast-food outlets. Missing escape routes and fire extinguishers were frequently criticized in the affected catering establishments. In one restaurant, mouse droppings were discovered, indicating the presence of rodents.

In another establishment, an Asian snack bar, food was prepared in an unhygienic manner. Noodles were treated in a foul-smelling bathtub, and employees lacked proper hygiene training. Moreover, several restaurants had structural changes, converting staff wet areas into sleeping areas.

The compliance with the obligation to carry identification documents has significantly improved compared to the first cooperative control in April. However, carrying identification documents is mandatory in sectors affected by black work, such as the catering industry.

The control actions will continue to focus on the Rheda-Wiedenbrück area. A pest controller must visit the restaurant, and further control measures will check the correction of these shortcomings. The aim of the control actions remains to uncover various violations and crimes.

The customs office of Bielefeld (Financial Control of Illegal Employment - FKS), the police of Rheda-Wiedenbrück, the local regulatory office (Ordnungsamt) of Rheda-Wiedenbrück, the tax office of Wiedenbrück, and the food inspection authority of the Gütersloh district will continue conducting joint control actions in the Rheda-Wiedenbrück region. These future control actions will bundle the respective administrative responsibilities of the security authorities.

The control actions are not limited to the catering industry but may also target other sectors. The control actions are intended to ensure compliance with regulations in various sectors. The control actions may lead to the discovery of new violations and crimes. The control actions are a continuation of the previous joint actions conducted by the authorities.
