Delivers support for the implementation of welfare programs in Gujarat utilizing Information and Communication Technology: PV Mohan Krishnan, Deputy Director General, NIC Gujarat

In the vibrant state of Gujarat, the National Informatics Centre (NIC) has been playing a pivotal role in shaping the digital landscape of citizen services.

NIC Gujarat has been entrusted with handling applications that involve sensitive data within the Gujarat Government, demonstrating its commitment to maintaining the integrity and security of crucial information.

One of the significant achievements of NIC Gujarat is its contribution to the implementation of the "PM Kisan" program. By providing technical support, developing and managing the digital platform for beneficiary enrollment, fund disbursement, and monitoring, the state ranked second in the number of beneficiary registrations after the scheme's launch. The organisation leveraged the Digital Gujarat framework to capture data from grass root levels in the state, ensuring efficient execution of agricultural welfare programs.

In the health domain, NIC has helped the state health department implement an online birth and death registration system, further streamlining essential services.

The "Krishi Sahay" application, developed by NIC Gujarat, has been instrumental in distributing monetary benefits to farmers following the recent monsoon hardships in the state. Approximately 32 lakh records were captured after the launch of the application in December.

NIC Gujarat has also developed an online system for converting land from agriculture to non-agriculture and making related payments through Integrated Online Revenue Applications (IORA).

In the realm of employment, NIC has developed an online job application system, 'OJAS', which is used by the Gujarat Public Service Commission for recruitments. Citizens can check the status of their applications online through the Integrated Online Record of Rights (IORA).

The state government directed NIC Gujarat to develop a state-level application for the PM Kisan scheme to ensure quality data and multiple validations at the time of capture. In response, NIC Gujarat developed the State PM Kisan software within a week.

The 'i-Khedut' web portal, managed by NIC Gujarat, serves as a repository for all farmer-related information in Gujarat. The portal has a G2C segment for people and is a 100% scheme management portal for farmers, through which they can apply for various government-run welfare schemes.

NIC Gujarat has also integrated animal husbandry, fisheries, and horticulture departments into the 'i-Khedut' portal for rolling out welfare schemes. The Public Distribution System (PDS) application, managed by NIC, looks at both the distribution and supply sides.

NIC Gujarat's strong presence in the G2C and G2B service delivery segment is evident through its handling of critical large systems like the Public Distribution System (PDS) and Integrated Online Record of Rights (IORA). Its ability to quickly understand requirements and provide implementable solutions, stemming from its knowledge of processes in different government domains, has been instrumental in its success.

Gujarat, one of the leading states in adopting latest technologies for the benefit of its people, continues to reap the rewards of NIC Gujarat's dedication and innovations. The first lot of funds transfer has already happened following the launch of the "Krishi Sahay" application, marking a new era of digital transformation in Gujarat's agricultural sector.
