Digital resource offers assistance and direction for individuals experiencing dementia online
New Web Platform DementiaNet Supports Dementia Care
A new online platform called DementiaNet has been launched to help support people living with dementia and their caregivers. This innovative web platform was created by three co-founders, two of whom have personal experience with the dementia journey.
DementiaNet caters to users with various accessibility needs, including visual impairments, ADHD, and others. It offers an online forum to help combat emotional and social isolation, in addition to planning and legal tools. The platform's focus on simplicity and clarity aims to help users navigate the overwhelming information related to dementia.
One of the key features of DementiaNet is its built-in search tool, which connects users with local dementia support activities. This tool allows dementia support groups to add their events or gatherings, making it easier for users to find and participate in activities in their community.
In a survey conducted by DementiaNet in 2024, it was revealed that 88% of respondents were unhappy or unsatisfied with existing general dementia-related information. To address this issue, DementiaNet offers a secure digital vault, downloadable planning tools, and a step-by-step dashboard to help users manage tasks like care plans.
DementiaNet is available free of charge, with optional paid features for the secure planner and document store. It adapts to users' specific situations, making it a comprehensive resource for managing life with dementia.
Meanwhile, other user-friendly online platforms designed to support people living with dementia and their caregivers include Zinnia TV, Dementia Care Resources™, The DICE Approach™ powered by Clixie, CareFlick, and elder care software platforms. These platforms typically provide direct informational, educational, or technological support either to caregivers and people living with dementia or as training tools, often leveraging media, AI, or communication technology to address specific caregiving needs.
According to Hugh McGouran, another co-founder and chair of a dementia charity in the North east, navigating the generic information available online can be difficult. He emphasized the importance of DementiaNet in providing a more tailored and accessible resource for those affected by dementia.
The NHS estimates that 1 in 3 people will care for someone with dementia at some point in their lives. With the number of people living with dementia in the UK projected to reach 1.4 million by 2040, resources like DementiaNet are increasingly important.
Dementia Action Week is currently taking place, and DementiaNet is a valuable addition to the resources available for those affected by dementia. By offering a comprehensive and accessible platform, DementiaNet aims to grow and develop to become the go-to resource for managing life with dementia.
