Discussion convened on utilizing C-Arm technology in orthopedic trauma surgeries
News Article: International Workshop Highlights Role of C-Arm Fluoroscopy in Modern Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery
On August 9, 2025, Hong Ngoc General Hospital hosted an international workshop titled "The Intraoperative Use of C-arm Fluoroscopy in Orthopaedic Trauma Surgical Practice." The event brought together experts from renowned orthopaedic centres in Austria, Japan, Taiwan (China), and Việt Nam, as well as medical technology company Siemens Healthineers.
The workshop emphasized the critical role of C-Arm fluoroscopy in modern orthopaedic trauma surgery, particularly in minimally invasive procedures. The technology enables precise identification of anatomical landmarks, guides instrument positioning, and facilitates complex fracture fixation and spinal surgeries.
Associate Professor Trung Ha Kim, MD, PhD, performed a live-streamed surgery with the expert consultation of Professor Dr Dietmar Krappinger, PD, PhD, MBA. The surgery, a kinematically aligned, tendon- and muscle-sparing knee replacement, showcased the outstanding advantages of the next-generation 3D C-Arm technology.
Another live-streamed surgery demonstrated the percutaneous pedicle screw fixation for the treatment of spinal degeneration. This procedure underscored the technology's ability to improve fracture fixation, shorten operation time, and enable less invasive procedures for patients.
Key insights and advancements discussed at the workshop included minimally invasive fracture management, technique optimization, clinical applications in spine surgery, and minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO). Experts noted that tailoring the imaging strategy to each surgical case remains a challenge, necessitating ongoing clinical exchange and education to maximize C-arm utility.
The workshop combined scientific presentations and live surgical demonstrations to provide a multidimensional perspective on cutting-edge C-arm applications in orthopaedic trauma surgical practice. The event facilitated international clinical exchange for advancing intraoperative fluoroscopy techniques, promoting safer, more effective, and less invasive patient care.
In summary, the workshop and recent studies confirm that C-arm fluoroscopy is indispensable in modern orthopaedic trauma surgery for enhancing surgical accuracy, supporting minimally invasive techniques, and improving patient outcomes through real-time imaging and tailored intraoperative strategies.
Over 100 healthcare professionals participated in the workshop, both from Việt Nam and abroad. The event marked Hong Ngoc General Hospital's commitment to advancing modern medicine and its readiness to adopt and master technology, aiming to become a leading orthopaedic trauma centre of international standards in Việt Nam.
