Dutch Authorities Report: Young Boy Bitten by a Wolf in the Netherlands

In a shocking turn of events, a six-year-old child was attacked by a wolf in a forest near Utrecht, Netherlands. The incident took place in the popular Austerlitz pyramid area, sending ripples of concern through the community.

The Den Treek Henschoten estate, where the attack occurred, has advised visitors to exercise extreme caution. The province of Utrecht has also urged parents to avoid taking children to the woods. Nighttime entry has been banned in the Utrechtse Heuvelrug nature area, and it is advised to stay in groups and not stray from paths during the day.

The child sustained injuries on the chest, back, and face, in addition to a bite wound on the armpit. Initial reports suggested that the father of the attacked child thought the attacking animal was a dog. However, it was later confirmed that the wolf, nicknamed Bram, was the culprit.

Bram, a problematic wolf with a history of unusual behavior, has been linked to several incidents, including biting a woman and a child last year. Despite the ongoing danger, authorities have not yet shot the wolf, as DNA tests are still pending to confirm if Bram was involved in the latest attack.

The province has given hunters permission to shoot Bram and has set a deadline until January 1, 2026. However, there is an ongoing appeal by some organizations against this decision, and the wolf remains protected under downgraded legislation that is yet to be enacted in Dutch law.

A judge previously dismissed an appeal against the permit to shoot the problematic wolf, but the results from the DNA tests, expected in about two weeks, will determine if Bram was also the attacker in this case. Until then, the wolf remains free, and the community waits with bated breath.

In the meantime, visitors to the affected area are advised to be vigilant and follow safety guidelines to avoid any unfortunate encounters with Bram. The province has also advised that jogging, riding, or cycling in the woods should be avoided, especially during nighttime hours.
