Elderly and Disabled Commissioner Pays Visit to the Second Largest City in Upper Palatinate Region

On September 12, 2025, around 30 senior and disability commissioners accepted an invitation from County Councillor Tanja Schweiger for an outing to Weiden in der Oberpfalz. The day's events were a mix of both being eventful and relaxing, aiming to foster cooperation and learn about local needs.

The outing was organised by the department of support in difficult life situations - care support point plus in the County Council's organisation. The group gathered at the county council office in Regensburg before setting off for Weiden.

Upon arrival, the commissioners were warmly welcomed by Councillor Tanja Schweiger, who expressed her gratitude for their valuable commitment in voluntary work. Small gifts were presented to the commissioners before they embarked on a historical city tour around Weiden.

The Ratskeller Weiden restaurant took care of the participants' lunch, providing a delightful dining experience. After lunch, there was free time for activities such as visiting the factory outlets of Seltmann-Porzellan or Witt Weiden, or strolling through the old town.

The senior and disability commissioners continuously strive to enable and expand the participation opportunities of older and disabled persons in society. They serve as contact persons for the concerns and wishes of the county citizens. The outing provided an opportunity for the commissioners to engage with their community and address local concerns and wishes.

The goal of their outing to Weiden was to foster cooperation and learn about local needs. The cooperation between the county council and the local senior commissioners aims to learn about local needs and bring the county council's offerings to the region, promoting inclusion and accessibility.

The day concluded with the commissioners returning to the county council office in Regensburg by 6 pm, marking the end of a successful and enlightening outing. The senior and disability commissioners work tirelessly with dedication and passion to expand participation opportunities for older and disabled persons in society.
