Emma Willis boldly returns to the red carpet following recent heart surgery.
Emma Willis Makes a Wicked Comeback After Heart Surgery
49-year-old television presenter Emma Willis has made a striking comeback, following a shocking revelation about her hidden heart condition. After learning she had a 'hole in her heart' for 48 years, she underwent keyhole surgery and has now recovered.
Standing strong by her side during the operation and her first public appearance was her husband Matt Willis, 41. The couple, who have been together since the 00s, attended London's V&A Museum for the BAFTA TV Craft Award nominees' party, looking dapper in coordinated black suits.
Emma was all smiles, flaunting her abs in a cropped black top and an embroidered suit, while husband Matt kept things simple with his sleek black suit and open shirt, showing off his tattoos.
Just 24 hours before, Emma revealed the heart-stopping news to her fans, assuring them she was doing well and recovering. In a lengthy Instagram post, she shared her heartfelt gratitude for the medical team's support throughout the investigations, diagnosis, and surgery.
'A few weeks ago, I had keyhole heart surgery, which feels very strange to write, and even stranger when I say it out loud,' she wrote. 'From investigations last year, to diagnosis and then surgery, they were absolutely incredible.'
A 'hole in the heart' often refers to septal defects, such as an atrial septal defect (ASD) or a ventricular septal defect (VSD). In Emma's case, it appears she had an ASD, a condition fronted by symptoms that can be mild during childhood[2].
In an ASD, extra blood flows through the defect to the right of the heart, causing it to stretch and enlarge. This can result in pain, heart murmurs, and shortness of breath[2]. Small holes can sometimes close themselves, but if the hole becomes too big, surgical intervention is necessary[2].
Emma couldn't contain her awe for modern medicine and the incredible people who work tirelessly to save, fix, and help us every day. She shared several pictures from her time in the hospital, with Matt by her side throughout.
Other celebrities graced the red carpet of BAFTA's TV Craft Award nominees' party, including Nicola Coughlan, The Bridgerton star, who wore a black blazer mini-dress with a bow and train, and her boyfriend Jake Dunn.
Dianne Buswell and her partner Joe Sugg also attended, with Buswell donning a beautiful white floral gown that harmonized with Sugg's earthy jacket.
Some other notable attendees included Judi Love, Ellie Simmonds, and Ella Morgan.
