In a shocking turn of events, Elon Musk's space exploration company, SpaceX, is facing yet another lawsuit. Robert Markert, a former SpaceX supervisor who worked at the company for nearly 14 years, has filed a lawsuit against SpaceX, alleging neglect of safety risks and employee protection for cost reasons.

Markert, who was responsible for inspecting landed rockets and preparing them for the next launch, claims that he repeatedly warned senior management about the dangers of a particular rocket fairing recovery process. He asserted that the process was extremely unsafe and could "easily cause serious injury or death." Despite his concerns, SpaceX chose to continue with the process, citing it as the "more economical solution."

The lawsuit further accuses SpaceX of forcing employees to work up to three weeks straight without a break, a practice that Markert claims led to overworked and understaffed technicians. Markert alleges that technicians were too afraid to report injuries due to fear of reprisal. When he suggested hiring more technicians or slowing the launch schedule to improve safety and reduce injuries, his proposals were ignored.

Markert's lawsuit also claims that he was fired in April 2025 as retaliation for consistently raising safety issues. The complaint describes SpaceX management's response as dismissive, emphasizing schedule and cost over employee safety and instructing Markert to "bring solutions, not problems."

The case was initially filed in a California state court and has since been transferred to a federal court in Los Angeles. The allegations against SpaceX have sparked attention regarding unsafe working conditions and inadequate employee safety.

This is not the first time SpaceX has been accused of such practices. In 2023, engineer Ashley Foltz sued the company, claiming that she was paid significantly less than her male counterparts upon joining. The difference was revealed by a new California law requiring salary ranges in job postings. SpaceX later increased her salary, but only to the lower end of the official range.

In early July, a black materials inspector who worked in the same SpaceX facility as Markert filed a lawsuit, claiming that white colleagues did not face consequences for similar incidents.

The lawsuit against SpaceX has raised concerns about the company's handling of safety standards, with Markert describing the behaviour as "disgraceful." The allegations include chronic understaffing, unsafe work processes, ignoring reported injuries, and retaliation against employees who speak out.

SpaceX is yet to respond to these allegations publicly. However, the company has faced several other lawsuits from former employees who report unfair treatment. The ongoing legal battles could potentially tarnish the reputation of one of the world's leading space exploration companies.
