Rockin' the Years: The Fantastic Four's Take on Aging

Fed up with the aging process

Ahh, the good ol' age, it's a real barbarian, ain't it? That's what Hamburg-based hip-hop legend Thomas D, aka Die Fantastischen Vier's frontman, has to say about it in the latest issue of Playboy's German edition. The 56-year-old musician is frank about his dislike for the grumpy, old geezer creeping up on him. "Can't sleep worth a damn, strength's waning, and every year's just another excuse to indulge in some sweet, sweet cake," he grumbles, reminiscing about the good ol' days when working out like Arnold Schwarzenegger was his idea of a fun workout. "Now, I'm stretching, doing yoga, and looking like I'm about to join a senior citizens' club," he quips, throwing in a dose of dark humor that's as signature to the band as their legendary music.

It seems the other bandmates, Smudo, Michi, and And.Ypsilon, share his sentiments. Thomas D reveals they've been grumbling about the creeping years for 15 long ones now. But as the "dictator" of the band, Thomas D isn't ready to throw in the towel just yet. "I've passed the 'Fanta Law,' declaring the band forever united under my reign," he announces with a grin, banning the very thought of splitting up. "If anyone ever tries to rock the boat, all they'll get is the 'exit' sign. And we'll just replace them with fresh blood - younger, better, and easier on the eyes," he laughs, reminding us all that even a legend like Thomas D is just as vain as the rest of us.

Although the discomforts of age may be getting under his skin, Thomas D and Die Fantastischen Vier continue to make music that's as fresh and fun as ever. And here's to many more years of rock 'n' roll, ‘n' rebellion!
