Former Inmate, Chiu, Involved in Another Stabbing Incident in Miaoli City

A former inmate, surnamed Chiu, was released from prison in March after serving eight years for a previous stabbing incident. Tragically, he was involved in another violent attack on October 3, 2025, in Miaoli city. The incident, over a parking space dispute, left three people injured, including two 11-year-old students.

The attack occurred around 2:00 PM near a convenience store. Chiu, who has known mental health issues, stabbed two students, Ting and Hsu, along with a man, Lin. Ting suffered a chest stab wound, while Hsu had minor injuries on her chest and elbow. Lin was stabbed in the abdomen and back and was still receiving treatment. Miaoli County Commissioner Chung Tung-chin visited the injured at the hospital, expressing concern about Chiu's release.

Chiu resisted arrest but was eventually subdued with a stun gun after tying a knife to his hand. Authorities are investigating the incident and considering whether Chiu received adequate mental health treatment during his imprisonment.

The stabbing incident in Miaoli city has raised questions about the release of prisoners with mental health issues. Authorities are reviewing Chiu's case and the care he received while incarcerated. The two students and the man injured are recovering, with the full extent of their injuries still being assessed.
