The unfortunate victims of this outbreak ranged from tots to tweens, with hospital visits spanning from June 13 to 18. The five who fell ill with HUS are all too familiar with its symptoms, which involve the formation of blood clots that can wreak havoc on the brain, heart, and kidneys. Typically, only 100 to 165 cases of HUS in children get documented in France annually.
