Fire Investigation Continues at Converted Farmhouse in France

A tragic fire at a converted farmhouse housing residents with mental disabilities has claimed the lives of four people and left one person missing as of July 29, 2025.

The fire broke out on Monday, with eight people, including four carers and two property owners, inside the farmhouse, which served as a holiday care home. The public prosecutor's office has opened an investigation into manslaughter or unintentional injury regarding the incident.

The National Gendarmerie Criminal Research Institute is conducting a comprehensive investigation into the fire, examining it from both forensic and fire investigation perspectives. However, no new developments, leads, or updates about the progress of the investigation have been reported.

Despite the ongoing investigation, the causes of the fire remain unknown, including whether the smoke detectors functioned properly and how people became aware of the fire. Autopsies will be conducted to determine the causes of death.

As the investigation continues, Parmentier-Lecocq emphasized the need for time to carry out the investigation and avoid speculation. The authorities are working diligently to find answers and bring any potential wrongdoers to justice.

The public is reminded to prioritize safety, especially in communal living spaces, and to ensure that all necessary safety measures are in place. This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the importance of fire safety and the potential consequences of neglect.
