As the much-anticipated Ingolstadt Volksfest approaches, the city's Equal Opportunities Office is working hard to ensure everyone can enjoy the festivities safely and respectfully. Barbara Deimel, the city's Equal Opportunities Officer, has emphasised the importance of respect and boundaries, stating that no one has the right to harass a girl or woman, regardless of clothing or level of intoxication.
To support those who may experience sexualized violence during the festivities, two helplines are available: 0841 17353 and www.wirbelwind.de. For those who prefer online assistance, there's also hilfetelefon.de.
The prevention campaign, running for many years under the motto "Have fun and celebrate safely," is a collaborative effort by a broad alliance of experts. This alliance includes Police Oberbayern Nord, Wirbelwind e. V., Ingolstadt Women's Shelter, Soroptimist Ingolstadt, Zonta Ingolstadt, Condrobs e. V., and the Technical University of Ingolstadt.
The campaign offers valuable tips for a trouble-free Volksfest experience, which are displayed at key locations on the festival grounds. Visitors are encouraged to stay alert, keep an eye on their drink, and trust their instincts. If they feel threatened or experience inappropriate behaviour, they are urged to clearly say 'NO' and seek help.
In addition, it's important to know your limits with drinking, and to keep valuables like money, phone, and keys on your person. For a safe journey home, visitors are advised to organise their return and stay connected via phone. It's also wise to stay together and agree on meeting points.
In case of an emergency, the police emergency number 110 should be contacted. The campaign aims to ensure everyone can enjoy the Volksfest without worries, and the city authorities, police, and other partners are working together to provide advice and raise awareness for a secure festival experience.
