"Ghana Introduces National Health App Developed by OeSD: A Countrywide Initiative"

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) of Ghana has launched a digital platform, the "MyNHIS" app, designed to modernise and simplify access to the National Health Insurance Scheme’s (NHIS) membership services across the country.

This innovative app is a significant step forward in Ghana's mission to make healthcare accessible to everyone, leaving no one behind. The high smartphone penetration in Ghana, with over 73% of citizens aged 12 and above having access to a smartphone, was a main reason for partnering with OeSD International for the development of the "MyNHIS" app.

The "MyNHIS" app, available for free on the Google Play Store for Android devices and the Apple App Store for iOS devices, offers a range of features to make managing NHIS membership easier and more convenient. Users can access their NHIS membership details, renew or apply for membership digitally, and even add friends and family members to simplify family healthcare.

Upon completion of registration, users gain access to an overview of their insurance status, prescriptions, monthly payments, and nearby NHIS-certified medical centers. Payments for NHIS services can be made conveniently through the app using methods like Mobile Money, credit card, and bank transfer. The app also facilitates international payments, making it easier for Ghanaians abroad to support their families at home.

Claudia Schwendimann, CEO of OeSD International, commented that this is another successful launch of a digital eID app for OeSD. Bernard Okoe-Boye, CEO of Ghana NHIA, stated that the digital innovation has significantly increased the number of members who renew their membership annually.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo expressed pleasure with the improvements made in the National Health Insurance Scheme to ease access. The "MyNHIS" app is a significant improvement for general healthcare nationwide in Ghana.

In the coming months, "MyNHIS" will be expanded with additional features and capabilities to further enhance user-friendliness and efficiency. The National Health Insurance Authority continues to invest in digital platforms like the MyNHIS app to enhance service delivery, aligning with broader national digital health initiatives aiming for improved healthcare accessibility and efficiency in Ghana.

Citizens without prior NHIS membership can register using their personal data, verified against the national citizen registry. Registration on the "MyNHIS" app requires an active internet connection and a national ID card. Schwendimann, CEO of OeSD International, is proud to collaborate with NHIA on the flagship "MyNHIS" project.

The "MyNHIS" app, designed to modernize health-and-wellness services in Ghana, is a testament to the country's commitment to leveraging technology for mental-health and overall health improvement. This app, developed with the help of OeSD International, is available on smartphones, making it accessible to the majority of Ghana's population, given the high smartphone penetration. The app offers various features, such as managing NHIS membership, accessing membership details, and making payments, all aimed at simplifying healthcare access.
