Honoring Ayurveda Day 2024: Tapping into the Power of AYUSH for Worldwide Wellbeing

The 9th Ayurveda Day was celebrated on October 29, 2024, with the theme "Ayurveda Innovation for Global Health." This significant day marked a reflection on Ayurveda's transformative role in individual health and wellness, as well as in shaping a healthier, more sustainable world.

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has been instrumental in supporting the growth of Ayurveda and related sectors. CII has dedicated committees for Ayurveda, Healthcare, Medical Technology, Health Insurance, and Public Health, working tirelessly over the past decade to foster knowledge creation, advocate for policy enhancements, and cultivate collaborative platforms in India's health sector.

Ayurveda, a core component of the AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy) system, is acknowledged as a system of Traditional Medicine in more than 30 countries. In India, awareness of Ayurveda is exceptionally high, with knowledge of these systems ranging from 87% to 99% in rural areas and over 86% across urban regions in all States and Union Territories.

The AYUSH sector in India has a current valuation of over $50 billion, with the manufacturing sector reaching a valuation of US$ 24 billion by 2024. The AYUSH service sector has a valuation of US$ 26 billion, and the future growth of Ayurveda is guided by innovation, tradition, and an unwavering commitment to well-being.

In recent years, nations such as the USA, Germany, the UK, Canada, and Australia have imported Ayurveda products, and the number of importing countries has generally increased since 2020. Ayurveda products are exported to over 150 nations, making it a beacon of hope and resilience, offering holistic solutions that resonate far beyond borders.

According to NirogStreet surveys, the overall market for Ayurveda products and services is projected to grow at a CAGR of 15% from FY23 to FY28. The product sector of Ayurveda is projected to grow at 16% CAGR, while the services segment is anticipated to expand at 12.4% CAGR.

Ayurveda Day 2024 also highlighted Ayurveda's rich heritage and growing innovations, emphasising its potential to play a pivotal role in global health. The theme "Ayurveda Innovation for Global Health" signifies a commitment to leveraging Ayurveda's time-tested wisdom to address contemporary health challenges and contribute to a healthier, more sustainable world.

This Ayurveda Day, India's contributions to global health are celebrated, and a future is envisioned where Ayurveda's influence grows even stronger. CII continues to drive initiatives that elevate healthcare standards and position Ayurveda as a globally viable and respected healthcare system.
