Hospital security: police presence within medical facilities
In a bid to safeguard medical personnel from rising instances of violence, security posts have been established in several hospitals across a city in Kazakhstan. This initiative, driven by a directive from President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, aims to create a safer working environment for healthcare providers.
The emergency department of City Multi-Profile Hospital No.2, which receives approximately 400 people daily with various injuries and conditions, is one such facility that has seen the implementation of these security measures. Madina Tabuldikyz, the head of the emergency department, expressed concern about a lack of respect for doctors and welcomed the new security posts.
The initiative, reviewed by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov and Health Minister Akmaral Alnazarova, includes equipping medical staff with smart video badges, installing comprehensive security systems, and deploying permanent police posts in emergency departments. These measures are intended to deter attacks and enhance the overall security of the hospitals.
The move comes as a response to increasing aggression not just from patients but also from their relatives in the emergency department. This concern was echoed by medical workers who have expressed their support for the initiative, stating that it contributes to the creation of a safe and stable working environment.
Security posts have been installed in three city multi-profile hospitals for adults, City Children's Hospital No.2, and in two republican clinics. However, the installation of security posts in Children's Multi-Profile Hospitals No.1 and No.3, and in the city perinatal center, is currently being worked out.
It's worth noting that the Triage system is used to prioritise patients in the emergency department, ensuring that those in the most critical condition receive immediate attention. This system, coupled with the new security measures, is expected to further improve the efficiency and safety of the emergency departments in Kazakhstan's hospitals.
President Tokayev has also ordered to toughen punishment for the use of physical force and cruel treatment of medical workers, underscoring the government's commitment to protecting healthcare personnel. The exact nature of the increased penalties is yet to be announced.
