India's First Ronald McDonald House Opens in Mumbai
India's first Ronald McDonald House has opened in Mumbai, aiming to provide a nurturing environment for families of children undergoing medical treatment. The House was inaugurated by several dignitaries, including Advocate Ashish Shelar, the Hon'ble IT Minister of Maharashtra, and Bhushan Gagrani, the Hon'ble Municipal Commissioner of BMC. Smita Jatia, Chairwoman of Ronald McDonald House India, also attended the event.
The Mumbai House, a project of Ronald McDonald House India, seeks to ease the burden on families traveling long distances for treatment. It offers 16 fully furnished private rooms, providing complimentary accommodation, nutritious meals, hospital transport, counselling, and 24/7 support to over 500 families annually.
Smita Jatia, speaking at the inauguration, highlighted the House's role in offering a 'home away from home', where families can find respite, share experiences, and build a network of care. Advocate Ashish Shelar praised the initiative, calling it a role model for generosity and kindness that fulfills the demand for safe, affordable accommodation.
The Mumbai House is the first of many planned Ronald McDonald Houses in India. By 2030, Ronald McDonald House India aims to establish 3 Family Rooms and 5 Houses across 5 cities, creating spaces where families find hope, strength, and the power to heal together.
