Last Days of a Poisoned Mother: Uncovering the Alleged Cause by Her Husband

In early 2023, Angela Craig, a Colorado resident, fell ill with a mysterious ailment that left her hospitalized multiple times. Her symptoms included blurred vision, feelings of being drugged, seizures, and a rapid medical decline, culminating in a coma and her eventual brain death on August 18, 2023 [1][2].

The official cause of death was revealed to be acute poisoning by cyanide and tetrahydrozoline, a toxic eye drop [1][2]. The investigation that followed unveiled a calculated poisoning scheme by Angela's husband, James Craig, a local dentist.

Evidence presented at the trial showed that James Craig had been administering cyanide and other toxic substances to Angela, disguising her symptoms as post-COVID complications or misdiagnosing them as diabetes [1]. His communications revealed a double life, as he tried to conceal Angela's condition.

James Craig was found guilty of murder and other charges and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole [1][4]. The court heard how he had poisoned Angela's protein shakes, leading to her tragic demise.

Angela's final words, according to her sister-in-law, Renee Pray, were "Why do I hurt?" [3]. In the days leading up to her hospitalization, Angela had been sharing her symptoms with her family via text messages.

On the day of the alleged poisoning, Renee gave Angela an antibiotic, clindamycin, at 10 a.m. However, within 20 to 25 minutes, Angela could no longer hold herself up [3].

Multiple samples of Angela's blood taken during her hospital visits showed high levels of arsenic, cyanide, and tetrahydrozoline [3]. The amount of arsenic in her blood decreased after the second sample, suggesting a possible second exposure [3]. Angela remained in the hospital for several days during her second visit, eventually suffering a seizure and being placed on life support in the ICU [3].

The deterioration of Angela's health was witnessed by her family and friends over nearly two weeks in 2023. Despite multiple hospital visits, Angela was discharged without a diagnosis [3]. It was only after her tragic death that the truth about James Craig's actions came to light.
