Launch of "Hope in Darkness" exhibition during Intercultural Weeks 2024, Regensburg
In the heart of Regensburg, Germany, an exhibition titled "Artworks by Afghan Women" is currently captivating audiences. The opening ceremony was graced by Landrat Tanja Schweiger, Ahmad Hamid Wahidy, and representatives from various social associations and organizations, including Campus Asylum e.V., BI Asylum, Solwodi, Hromada, and the Evangelical Education Association Regensburg e.V.
The exhibition, showcasing the works of 60 female artists from Afghanistan, aims to raise awareness about the challenging circumstances faced by women and girls under the Taliban regime. The artworks, created under challenging and often dangerous conditions in Afghanistan, were smuggled to Germany to sensitize the international community to their plight.
Julia von Seiche, chairwoman of the Regensburg Initiative "Training instead of Deportation", issued a written statement emphasizing the global dimension of violence against women. She called for respectful handling of the works of Afghan women, underscoring their importance in amplifying the voices of these women and shining a light on their struggles.
Ahmad Hamid Wahidy, a former professor at the University of Sociology in Herat, supports the exhibition throughout Germany and works closely with the anonymous Afghan female artists.
