In the heart of Gelsenkirchen, on Monday, April 21, 2025, an unsettling incident occurred on a bus travelling along line 340 towards Rotthausen. The unknown perpetrator, described as a 45-year-old man, approximately 1.80 to 1.85 meters tall, with dark hair and tattoos on his neck, allegedly sprayed irritant gas in the bus, causing several people, including the bus driver and a 22-year-old witness, to be lightly injured.

The incident unfolded around 13:30 when the suspect, who was wearing a cap, dark jeans, and a gray top, was asked to leave the bus by the 55-year-old driver. A dispute ensued, leading the suspect to allegedly deploy the irritant spray and flee via Overwegstraße towards the music theater.

The 22-year-old witness, who hails from Herne, tried to de-escalate the situation, but was unfortunately caught in the chaos. Both the bus driver and the witness received immediate medical treatment on the spot.
