Looking out for your summer fun, the DLRG (Deutsche Lebens-Rettungs-Gesellschaft) beefed up its rescue game in the chilly waters of Schleswig-Holstein. In a whopping increase, they performed a staggering 211 rescue missions last year, compared to the 146 missions in 2023, as reported by the DLRG itself.

Not just saving swimmers from the water, these heroes sprung into action for various medical emergencies on land too, including heart rates gone haywire on the sandy shores or cases of heart and circulatory diseases. Although the exact number of water-related rescues wasn't immediately clear, one thing's for sure: these lifeguards are always ready to dive in and save the day.

However, time wasn't always on their side: 25 folks slipped through their fingers last year and drowned, compared to 2023's 28 unfortunate incidents.

With 5,855 active members looking out for you, the organization managed to clock in almost 188,000 hours of water rescue service, offering a helping hand to a humbling 2,211 people - and that's just in Schleswig-Holstein.

Spread across Germany, DLRG lifeguards joined forces and rescued 1,446 people from life-threatening situations last year, marking a significant leap from the 1,120 rescues in 2023. Among those saves were 699 people snatched from the clutches of the deadly water, shedding light on the life-saving work these brave souls do. The downside? 411 individuals succumbed to the water.

DLRG: the largest water rescue organization on the globe? You bet! With over 627,000 members, the DLRG boasts a steadfast army of volunteers. Half of the troops are young guns under the age of 18 - a testament to the younger generation's commitment to water safety.

The DLRG, being the largest water rescue organization globally, has emphasized community policies to promote water safety, including vocational training for lifeguards in Schleswig-Holstein and across Germany. These lifeguards, who have saved a significant number of lives from drowning, also offer health-and-wellness advice, such as fitness-and-exercise tips related to water activities, to enhance community members' overall well-being.
