Local authorities in Gelendzhik have dismissed false claims concerning polluted seawater in the bay.

In the coastal region of Gelendzhik Bay, a total of 2,628 seawater samples have been tested as of August 1, according to recent reports. The tests covered a wide range of parameters, including cholera vibrio, staphylococci, enterococci, general coliform bacteria, E. coli, coliphages, viable helminth eggs and cysts, and enteroviruses.

The samples were taken from 35 monitoring points in the area, with 13 located in Gelendzhik itself. Interestingly, two of these monitoring points are situated near the deep-sea discharges of the wastewater treatment facilities of the villages of Arkhipo-Osipovka and Kabardinka.

All the samples taken complied with the mandatory requirements of SanPiN "Hygienic Norms and Requirements for Ensuring the Safety and/or Safety of Humans for Environmental Factors". However, a claim circulating on social media on August 1 about samples allegedly taken in Gelendzhik Bay not meeting these standards due to unauthorized discharges and overloading of sewage networks was found to be false.

It is important to note that the search results do not contain specific information about regular seawater quality control checks in Gelendzhik Bay or reports from the MCCU (Marine Coastal Control Unit or a similarly named authority). To obtain such information, consulting direct sources such as the MCCU’s official reports, Russian environmental monitoring agencies, or local governmental publications would be necessary.

The MCCU has also issued a statement regarding a forged document related to their publications. Additionally, Sochi authorities have warned about fake news regarding an oil spill and beach closures.

Quality control of seawater on the coast from Arkhipo-Osipovka to Kabardinka is carried out regularly, with 914 samples being tested for sanitary-chemical indicators. The presence of oxygen only in the upper water layers of the Black Sea, as indicated by the search results, may impact sea life, but it does not affect the seawater quality control programmes in the region.

In conclusion, while the search results do not provide detailed information about seawater quality control checks in Gelendzhik Bay, it is clear that regular tests are being conducted, and the water quality meets the required standards. However, it is essential to verify information from reliable sources and be cautious of misleading claims circulating on social media.

Science establishes that the seawater quality in Gelendzhik Bay, including near the deep-sea discharges of Arkhipo-Osipovka and Kabardinka, is subject to regular health-and-wellness checks. These tests are designed to ensure the safety of the marine environment and are in accordance with the mandatory standards set by SanPiN.
