Emergency responders, as per Johanniter's perspective, must encompass both technical proficiency and emotional empathy. Individuals in dire situations demand and value holistic aid. Whether indoors or on the move, emergency services are frequently required during accidents or critical health emergencies. For the Bavaria-based rescue team of Johanniter, this entails offering comprehensive aid for both the physical and emotional well-being.

Johanniter Emergency Services Prioritize Objective Competence and Empathy

The Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe, a German humanitarian organization, emphasizes the importance of merging objective competence and empathy in providing emergency services. This approach aims to offer comprehensive support to individuals in distress, regardless of their age or situation.

In the event of accidents or serious health crises, the Johanniter rescue teams in Bavaria are often called upon to provide urgent aid. Raphael Fleischmann, Manager of the Emergency Service at the Johanniter Regional Association of Upper Bavaria, highlights the necessity of both professional expertise and empathetic care in such critical moments. He explains, "Showing kindness and support helps to alleviate anxiety and sometimes even assists in coping with pain."

The feedback from those affected shows the positive impact of this approach. A recent survey conducted by the Johanniter Unfallhilfe e.V. in Bavaria revealed that 91% of respondents found the Johanniter rescue teams very friendly, 99% felt well attended to, and 94% were very satisfied with the explanation of the necessary treatment steps.

Alexander Hameder, Head of Deployment and Emergency Services of the Johanniter in Bavaria, is pleased with this feedback and attributes it to the team's ability to act both professionally and empathetically. Hameder believes that their approach aligns with the Johanniter's philosophy of assistance: "Help out of love for life."

However, the Johanniter underscore the importance of a suitable framework for the emergency services to fulfill their tasks effectively in the long term. They welcome the fact that the German government's coalition agreement provides for emergency and rescue service reform legislation. Hameder comments, "We have been advocating for the restructuring of pre-clinical emergency care for years." He hopes that the forthcoming reforms will translate into concrete steps, such as improved coordination of emergency numbers.

The Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe, established as a Protestant order, has been providing aid to individuals in need for centuries. With over 31,000 employees, 46,000 volunteers, and around 1.2 million supporting members, the organization offers various services beyond emergency and ambulance services, including social services for children and the elderly, civil protection, and first aid training. Moreover, the Johanniter are active in humanitarian aid abroad.
