Meet Carlota: 19-Year-Old Para-Olympic Swimmer & Inspirational Ambassador

Meet Carlota, a remarkable 19-year-old para-Olympic swimmer from Mexico. Born prematurely and diagnosed with cerebral palsy and spastic hemiparesis, she has overcome incredible odds. Now, she's been named International Patient Ambassador for Shriners Children's Hospital, representing them at major events across the US and Canada.

Carlota's journey began at Shriners Children's Mexico when she was just 4 years old. She underwent six surgeries and years of physical and occupational therapy. At 5, they corrected a nearly five-inch leg length difference, enabling her to run for the first time. Today, she's a competitive swimmer, hoping to compete in the 2028 Paralympics in Los Angeles.

As International Patient Ambassador, Carlota will attend prestigious events like the Rose Parade in Pasadena and the East-West Shrine Bowl in Arlington. She's eager to raise awareness about Shriners Children's Hospital and the incredible work they do.

Carlota's story is one of resilience and triumph. From a premature birth and a challenging diagnosis to becoming a para-Olympic swimmer and International Patient Ambassador, she continues to inspire. Through her, Shriners Children's Hospital hopes to touch more lives and create a lasting impact.
