Pflastermobil Team Deploys at Women's Shelter in Mönchengladbach

Mobile health care services below minimal medical standards on the roadside

Today, a dedicated team of healthcare professionals and volunteers are providing essential medical care to women in need at a local women's shelter, as part of the Pflastermobil project.

The Team

The team consists of Dr. Klemens Bolzenius, Dr. Lina Wiemer, and Albrecht Driescher, who are joining forces to offer their expertise in the areas of medicine, paediatrics, and transportation respectively. Each deployment lasts between four to five hours, with the team averaging two deployments per year.

The Women's Shelter Deployment

The women's shelter deployment is an urgently needed service, as it caters specifically to women, addressing an imbalance in the Pflastermobil's patient demographic. This deployment occurs every three months, and is supported by the Inner Wheel Club Mönchengladbach.

The Pflastermobil team is no stranger to providing medical care to homeless people and those who have "fallen through the social safety net." The project's network is considered strong, thanks to the support of various charities, healthcare foundations, and individual donors.

The Impact

The women's shelter deployment is just one example of the Pflastermobil's commitment to improving healthcare access for homeless individuals. The project's success is evident in its ability to address common diseases among the homeless, such as chronic wounds, respiratory, and skin diseases.

Today, the first patients at the women's shelter were a man suffering from a toothache and another seeking wound care. The Pflastermobil team is dedicated to providing immediate medical attention for such issues, as well as preventive care and long-term management strategies.

This deployment, like all Pflastermobil initiatives, is a testament to the importance of mobile, flexible healthcare models in urban social services. It highlights the ongoing efforts of local charities and healthcare professionals to bridge the gap in medical services for homeless populations, ensuring that everyone has access to the care they need, regardless of their circumstances.
