Nearly 1000 March for Mental Health in Doraville, Raising $240K
Nearly a thousand people gathered in Doraville, Georgia, for NAMI Georgia's annual fundraising walk. The event, partially sponsored by Eventbrite and hosted by evening anchor Blair Miller, aimed to raise awareness and funds for mental health initiatives.
The walk, held at Assembly Studios, saw participants traverse a nearly three-mile route in ideal weather conditions. They walked to honour loved ones affected by mental health issues. Kim Jones, NAMI Georgia's executive director, praised the passion and dedication of the organisation's volunteers, who played a crucial role in making the event a success.
Jones emphasised the importance of being 'loud and proud' about mental health, encouraging open discussions to reduce stigma. While acknowledging the increased dialogue around mental health, Monique Bell, a NAMI volunteer, stressed the need for more action.
The event raised over $240,000 for NAMI Georgia, demonstrating the community's commitment to mental health support. Despite the lack of information on the partial sponsorship funding by Georgia Power, the event's success highlights the growing need for mental health awareness and action.
