Partnering with Operation Lifesaver Canada, our company aims to prevent railway accidents during Rail Safety Week and continuing thereafter, with a focus on ending track-related fatalities.
In a commendable move, Alstom, the largest private passenger rail operator in North America, has partnered with Operation Lifesaver Canada (OL) to promote rail safety education. This collaboration is part of the See Tracks? Think Train® week, a time when industry partners, safety organizations, community leaders, first responders, and more come together to remind the public about the importance of staying safe around railroad tracks and trains.
The partnership between Alstom and OL underscores a shared commitment to safety and community engagement, specifically in Canada. Operation Lifesaver Canada, a nonprofit organization and a leader in rail safety education, has been committed to preventing collisions, injuries, and fatalities since 1981.
In Canada alone, more than 100 people per year are seriously injured or killed around tracks. In the first half of 2025, trespassing incidents are up 46.8% and serious injuries related to trespassing are up 150% over the five-year historical average. These statistics highlight the urgency of the need for increased rail safety awareness.
Josee Ouellet, Vice President Services North America of Alstom, is proud of their team members who have volunteered to help save lives. More than 50 employees of Alstom in Canada have been trained as Operation Lifesaver Rail Safety Ambassadors. These ambassadors will volunteer to bring OL's education material to life in their own communities.
Chis Day, National Director of Operation Lifesaver Canada, is thankful for Alstom's partnership in supporting their lifesaving mission. The partnership aims to prevent track tragedies, a goal that both organizations hold dear.
The press release from Alstom in Canada is about partnering with Operation Lifesaver to help STOP Track Tragedies during the See Tracks? Think Train® Week and beyond. Every year, approximately 2,300 North Americans are killed or seriously injured around rail crossings, tracks, and trains. By working together, Alstom and Operation Lifesaver hope to make a significant impact on rail safety awareness and contribute to the well-being of the communities they serve.
From September 15 to 21, organizations across the rail industry will come together for See Tracks? Think Train®. Alstom's partnership with Operation Lifesaver is a testament to their commitment to safety and community engagement, and a step towards a safer future for all.
