Patanjali, a company led by Ramdev, speaks out against alleged "mafia" activities after reported restriction of five medicines in Uttarakhand.
In a recent turn of events, the Ayurveda and Unani Licensing Authority in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, has ordered Baba Ramdev's pharmaceutical company, Divya Pharmacy, a part of the Patanjali group, to stop the production of five products. The products in question - Madhugrit, Eyegrit, Thyrogrit, BPgrit, and Lipidom - are advertised under Patanjali's series of ayurveda health products.
The order was issued by Dr GCS. Jangpangi, the certificate police officer of Uttarakhand Ayurvedic and Unani Providers, due to allegations of deceptive advertisements made by Patanjali. However, the company has not received a copy of the order as of yet.
The action was taken based on a complaint filed by Kerala-based eye doctor KV Babu in July. Although the specifics of KV Babu's complaint against Patanjali Ayurved are not publicly available, the Hindustan Times reported the development. KV Babu also sent an additional complaint to the State Licensing Authority (SLA) on October 11 through email.
Patanjali Ayurved maintains that all its products are made following Ayurveda practice with the highest research and quality. The company states that it employs over 500 scientists to ensure its products meet all legal procedures and global standards.
In response to the order, Patanjali Ayurved has stated that it plans to take legal action if the department does not rectify its mistake or penalize the individuals responsible for the deceptive advertisements and compensate for any institutional loss caused to the company.
The Uttarakhand government's move comes after reports stating that it had outlawed the production of five of Patanjali's medicines, citing deceptive advertisements. The Telegraph reported that Divya Pharmacy was asked to quit production of the mentioned products.
Despite the order, Patanjali Ayurved continues to claim that it has not received a duplicate of the order mentioned in the reports. The company also implicates an "anti-Ayurveda medication mafia" of a conspiracy, and it plans to take further legal action if necessary.
It is important to note that, at this time, there is no publicly available information detailing KV Babu or the nature of his complaint against Patanjali Ayurved. The Supreme Court listings, general news, and other unrelated reports do not provide any further context or details regarding this matter.
