Shifting Paradigms: Permanent Video Consultations for Sick Kids in Hessia

Permanent telehealth consultations available for ill children - Permanent videoconferencing service available for ill children

Venture a new chapter with video consultations for ailing kiddos! In an era-defining move, the Hessian Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KVH) brings daily video consultations to parents of sick children, effective from October 1st.

Armin Beck, KVH's trusty deputy chair, reveals they've been fine-tuning the model for two years, and the trial phase shows promising results. The ultimate goal: saving sick children and their parents from lengthy ordeals, such as the exhausting trek to on-call centers, and bridging the gap in wait times.

Wave goodbye to long hauls and waiting queues

So, what's the trick? Parents of unwell children can reach for their phones during the off-peak hours, connect with healthcare experts, and skip the tiresome drive to an on-call center. Presently, this service operates during select holidays, such as the prolonged weekend around Corpus Christi (19th to 22nd June).

The process? Parents call a dedicated number, largely on holidays, between 9 am and 7 pm. Following a swift screening, professionals match parents with a pediatrician and share a meeting link.

However, not all ailments are amenable to virtual treatment, cautioning against high fever or severe injuries, Beck alerts us. But for rashes, conjunctivitis, stomach flu, or prescription requests, video consultations prove quite handy!

The trial-run started in October 2023, and over 1,500 video treatments have been administered during holidays. The new offering will be available every Wednesday and Friday from 2 pm to midnight, on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 7 pm to midnight, and weekends from 7 am to 7 pm.

Take a leap forward with adult consultations also on the cards, Beck promises!
