Presenter Lea Wagner penned the following letter.
Lea Wagner, a popular host on German broadcaster ARD, has extended her contract with the network for another four years, as announced in February 2025. Known for her work on the ARD Sports Show and the Four Hills Tournament coverage, Wagner has made a significant impact in the world of sports journalism.
In addition to her sports-related duties, Wagner has also been hosting the quiz show "Frag mich was Leichteres!" since April 8, 2024. Her charismatic personality and engaging style have made the show a hit among viewers.
Wagner's career with ARD began with her reporting on the UEFA European Football Championship in 2024. She also replaced Lennert Brinkhoff and reported from the DFB's quarters during the men's Winter World Cup in Qatar the previous year. Wagner's versatility has allowed her to cover a wide range of events, including the FIFA Women's World Cup and various German sports channels such as "Sport Extra", "Sport am Samstag", "Sport im Dritten", and "Heimspiel".
The 31-year-old journalist, born on August 15, 1994, in Wiesbaden, will continue to host notable events like the New Year's ski jumping event in Garmisch and the third event of the Four Hills Tournament from Innsbruck in 2025. Wagner, who stands at 1.70 meters tall and is a Leo, also enjoys hobbies such as skiing, volleyball, and traveling.
While Wagner's professional life is well-documented, her private life remains relatively private. She is in a relationship with Yannick and resides in Stuttgart. Rumours of her being linked to footballers Mats Hummels and Ahmed Kutucu have circulated online, but little is known about these associations.
Wagner's father, David Wagner, is a renowned football coach who has coached Bundesliga club Schalke 04, Huddersfield Town in the Premier League, and BSC Young Boys in Bern. He is also the best friend and best man of star coach Jürgen Klopp. Contrary to speculation, it is Wagner's sister Lynn who is goddaughter to Klopp, not Lea.
With over 120,000 followers on her Instagram channel, Wagner occasionally posts model photos, updates from her assignments, and travel experiences. She does not have a favourite football team, but her passion for sports is evident in her work.
Wagner completed an internship with Borussia Dortmund's TV channel "BVB total" before joining ARD. Her journey in sports journalism continues to thrive, with no signs of slowing down.
