Proposal sought for a worker radiation safety directive from the Commission concerning risks associated with ionising radiation exposure.
In an unfortunate incident that occurred early Monday morning (14.7.) on Krefelder Straße, a couple was riding an e-scooter. The ride took a turn for the worse when the 31-year-old driver lost control, resulting in both riders falling off.
The 23-year-old passenger suffered severe injuries and was immediately taken to a hospital for treatment. The 31-year-old driver, on the other hand, only sustained minor injuries.
According to the police, a breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver, which showed a result just over one promille (0.5 ‰). This has raised suspicions of alcohol consumption by the driver.
It's important to note that in Germany, driving an e-scooter or any motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol is subject to the same legal limits and consequences as other motor vehicles.
Here's a breakdown of the legal consequences in Germany for driving e-scooters or motor vehicles under alcohol influence:
| BAC Level | Legal Consequence | |------------------|----------------------------------------------------------| | 0.0 ‰ (novice) | Zero tolerance; driving not allowed with any alcohol | | 0.3 ‰ | Possible criminal offense if impairment or accident | | 0.5 ‰ – <1.1 ‰ | Administrative offense; fine, 2 Flensburg points, 1-mo ban| | ≥1.1 ‰ | Criminal offense; harsher penalties like fines, bans, imprisonment |
Repeat offenses can lead to escalated consequences, including longer driving bans, higher fines, and potentially imprisonment. It's worth mentioning that for novice drivers under 21 years of age, or those who hold the driver’s license for less than 2 years, a zero-tolerance (0.0 ‰) alcohol policy applies.
The 31-year-old driver was taken to the police station for further blood samples and investigations. The exact penalties for this incident, especially in the case of repeat offenses, are yet to be determined, but they will fall within the framework of the outlined legal consequences.
This regulatory approach ensures that driving any motor vehicle, including e-scooters, under the influence of alcohol is subject to stringent control and deterrence in Germany.
