Renewable Kidney Centre in Solingen Emphasizes Innovative 'Smart Dialysis' Approach
The Nephrology Center Solingen, in collaboration with Bethanien Hospital and GreenTec Dialysis GmbH, is set to revolutionise dialysis services with the implementation of the innovative GreenTec Solution "Smart Dialysis." This groundbreaking approach aims to optimise dialysis services by significantly reducing energy and water consumption.
At the heart of this solution is the integration of smart technologies, designed to make dialysis treatments more sustainable and resource-efficient. By employing real-time data and automation, the system adjusts resource usage dynamically, minimising waste.
One key component of the GreenTec Solution is the use of heat pumps for energy-efficient temperature control during dialysis. This, in turn, contributes to substantial energy savings. In fact, the Nephrology Center Solingen is expected to save approximately 55,000 kWh of energy per year, accounting for 55% of its current annual energy consumption.
The solution also includes a warm water storage tank with digital control and monitoring, optimising water consumption. Moreover, the photovoltaic system in the GreenTec Solution harnesses renewable energy sources, further reducing the environmental impact.
Dr. Christoph Zwernemann, a leading figure at the Nephrology Center, emphasises the energy-intensive nature of dialysis, which consumes a lot of electricity and water. The introduction of Smart Dialysis, therefore, represents a significant step towards a more sustainable future.
The eco-friendly dialysis service is not only a strategic move for the Nephrology Center but also aligns with Bethanien Hospital's mission of resource preservation and careful handling. Kai Goetze, CEO of Bethanien Hospital, has approved a roof area for the photovoltaic system to support the Smart Dialysis project.
The Nephrology Center Solingen's eco-friendly dialysis service is also being extended to Gesundheitszentrum Aufderhöhe of Diakonie Bethanien. This extension is not just a testament to the Nephrology Center's reliability as a tenant since 2011, but also a reflection of shared values and commitments towards sustainability.
In addition to the energy and water savings, the GreenTec Solution "Smart Dialysis" is expected to significantly reduce CO2 emissions and operating costs. The project is projected to save approximately 24.5 tons of CO2 and 575,000 liters of water annually, making it a vital step towards more sustainable healthcare delivery.
