Setting Sail with Science: A Journey Through German Cities Aboard the MS Wissenschaft

Research Minister Takes Command of a Research Ship, Embarks on Voyage - Scientific vessel dispatched by Federal Minister Bär embarks on a tour

Hey there! Get ready for an educational, interactive, and captivating adventure! The MS Wissenschaft, a research vessel, is embarking on a tour of Germany, with Dorothee Baer, Federal Research Minister, leading the charge. This year's theme, "The Energy Transition," promises to fuel curiosity, spark innovation, and inspire the next generation of scientists.

Starting off in Berlin, the ship will visit approximately 30 cities, big and small, across Germany from May to September. The voyage will kick off between May 14th and 18th at the Schiffbauerdamm in Berlin, followed by a stop in Potsdam. The tour concludes in September in Straubing, Bavaria. This exciting exhibit is a project of the organization, Wissenschaft im Dialog.

Curiosity sparks and questions answered

In an interview, Simone Schwanitz, General Secretary of the Max Planck Society, emphasized that science offers various solutions, and this tour is an excellent opportunity to encourage curiosity among students, who will be our future scientists.

Anyone visiting can delve into intriguing aspects of the energy transition. Take a closer look at the amount of electricity the internet generates or feel the heat inside the Earth. The interactive exhibit features hands-on activities, such as racing toy electric cars, testing which sustainable energy carrier covers the longest distance.

A 30-piece exhibition, showcasing projects from various research institutions throughout Germany, brings the science to life. The exhibit is recommended from the age of twelve, and free daily guided tours ensure everyone can fully understand the wonders of science.

Baer: The coolest department of the government

In her role as Federal Research Minister, Baer highlighted that showcasing what science can achieve is crucial for her. She expressed her pride in the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space (BMFTR), affectionately referring to it as "the best and the coolest" of all departments.
