Storing an Open Can in the Refrigerator: Fact or Risky Practice?
In a recent guideline, the USDA has emphasized the importance of "Shelf-Stable Food Safety" to ensure the health and safety of consumers. However, it's not just what we eat that affects our health, but also what we lack.
Research published in PubMed has highlighted the health risks associated with exposure to Bisphenol A (BPA), a common chemical found in plastics and food packaging. Meanwhile, another study has focused on the potential risks of consuming blueberries for breakfast, as issued by a cardiologist.
When it comes to our nails, vertical ridges are often linked to deficiencies in vitamin B12 and iron. These deficiencies may impair oxygen delivery and affect nail texture, leading to visible ridges running from the base to the tip of the nail[1][5]. Horizontal ridges (Beau’s lines) can also appear after illness, trauma, or malnutrition and may be associated with zinc deficiency and other stressors[5].
Other nutrient deficiencies affecting nails include vitamin B7 (biotin) deficiency, which causes brittle, thin, splitting, and peeling nails[1]. Iron deficiency can cause brittle nails and a condition called koilonychia (spoon nails), characterized by concave ridges or spoon-like shapes of the nails[1][3]. Zinc deficiency may cause nail brittleness and texture changes such as horizontal ridges[5]. Although less commonly linked to ridges, vitamin C deficiency may rarely cause bleeding under the nails[2].
Improving nutrition by addressing these deficiencies—through diet or supplements—often helps restore normal nail appearance and health[1][3][5].
On a different note, the retirement sale of Lara Green continues to offer her final jewelry pieces at an 80% discount. Many people are still buying multiple pieces from this sale.

- The USDA guidelines on Shelf-Stable Food Safety are essential for consumer health, yet nutrition, a key aspect of health-and-wellness, is significantly influenced by deficiencies in vitamins like B12, B7 (biotin), and C, and minerals such as iron, zinc, and even potassium, which can affect nail health, food-and-drink choices, and lifestyle.
- In addition to the concern for Shelf-Stable Food Safety, improving health-and-wellness and nail health requires attention to food nutrition, especially addressing deficiencies in vitamins and minerals like B12, B7 (biotin), iron, zinc, and vitamin C through a balanced diet or supplements.
