Streets Experience Renewed Warmth as Solinger Cold Bus for the Homeless and Needy Resumes Operations
In the heart of Solingen, a unique initiative is making a significant difference in the lives of homeless and vulnerable individuals. The Malteser's Cold Bus team, in collaboration with THW and St. Sebastian parish, is providing a much-needed mobile cold-weather support service to those in need.
The Cold Bus project, which operates during the winter months until mid-March, offers a sanctuary where guests can find warmth, food, and essential supplies. More volunteers who wish to contribute to the well-being of the needy are warmly welcomed and can contact the Maltesers for more information.
The project receives annual clothing donations from "Beauti_Ful Things" and the Solingen Salvation Army. Furthermore, thanks to the generous support of bakery Stöcke, company Haribo, and Edeka Pauli, care packages with basic food supplies and hygiene items are distributed to needy guests upon request.
Kerstin Adolphs, the head of the Cold Bus at the Maltesers in Solingen, expressed her delight at the successful operation of the Cold Bus this winter. She acknowledged the financial subsidy from the city of Solingen and the commitment of the team for making this possible.
The demand for sleeping bags, warm clothing, and personal conversations is always high, according to Adolphs. Helpers at the Cold Bus are there to listen to the guests and provide information about other services such as emergency shelters or addiction counseling.
The Cold Bus operates every Sunday and Monday from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM, and on Thursdays and Fridays from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Mummstraße / Corner Kölner Straße in front of the former P&C building.
