Tim Kramer, based in Bochum, assumes the role of Engagement Ambassador for the year 2025.

In the heart of Germany, the city of Bochum is taking a bold step towards addressing a often overlooked issue in society - loneliness. The focus theme for the 2025 Week of Civic Engagement is loneliness, and a new initiative, United Bochum, is leading the charge.

United Bochum, established in 2025, was born from the conviction that social cohesion is something that can be shaped through encounters, conversations, open spaces, and the feeling of belonging. The founding board of United Bochum includes Tim Kramer, designer Sonja Israel, NRW state parliamentarian Dr. Bastian Hartmann, and other honorary members such as former VfL Bochum captain Anthony Losilla, loneliness researcher Prof. Dr. Maike Luhmann of Ruhr University, and Sari Koehler and Savio Hadaya.

Tim Kramer, who developed the 'eigen.' project in 2023 to address and cope with the topic of loneliness, was appointed as the 'Active Against Loneliness' Engagement Ambassador by the Federal Network for Civic Engagement on September 12, 2025. The 'eigen.' project became the registered association United Bochum on May 19, 2025.

The 21st Week of Civic Engagement's patron is Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. United Bochum promotes respectful interaction and sets impulses for more togetherness and a sense of belonging in the city. They encourage everyone who wants to join to participate.

United Bochum's offers include conversation formats, creative workshops, joint walks, open meetings, and various forms of artistic expression. They build bridges where gaps arise and create spaces for dialogue, participation, and cultural exchange.

United Bochum represents a city where people feel seen regardless of age, origin, social status, or cultural background. As the saying goes, 'Engagement makes strong' because it not only helps others but also promotes personal growth.

The appointment took place at the kick-off event of the 21st Week of Civic Engagement in Berlin, which is part of the 'Engagement makes strong!' campaign. United Bochum is a testament to the power of civic engagement in creating a more connected, inclusive, and empathetic society.
