Veteran radio and TV personality Björn-Hergen Schimpf has faced a formidable challenge, according to a confidant and fellow host Joerg Draeger. In the latest issue of "Bunte," Draeger reveals that the 81-year-old, best known for his six-year stint hosting the hit game show "What Am I?", had undergone an amputation of one of his legs.
Quoted in the magazine, Draeger lamented, "Unfortunately, they had to amputate Björn-Hergen's leg, which was indeed a sad event." Still, he also shared that Schimpf continues to embrace life with his trademark enthusiasm: "Fortunately, he's still the same old Björn-Hergen."
A Test of Resilience for the Indomitable Host
Per the article, Schimpf has grappled with health issues affecting his left leg for over a decade. In 2016, he endured a bypass operation to address poor blood flow. At that time, the operation successfully prevented the need for amputation.
Schimpf began his career as a radio host in the late 70s at Radio Luxemburg. Apart from reviving "What Am I?", he presented the travel quiz "A Day Like No Other" and worked for "Sonnenklar.TV." In 2008, he competed in the reality show "I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!" and placed eighth.
