Uniting Forces to Increase Awareness About HIV in the Community

On Saturday, November 21, from 4 to 8 p.m., Cathedral Hall at the Rochester Auditorium Theatre building (875 E. Main St.) will play host to the event "Hope Takes Action: A Road to Victory for Rochester." This community-driven initiative aims to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and vaccine research, as part of a broader effort to promote hope, health education, and community support.

The event is free and open to the public, but capacity is limited and will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Several local groups, including Voices of Goodwill Baptist Church, Rochester Theatre Students, RAPA (Rochester Association for the Performing Arts), Szet, Roc City Chronicles, and The MOCHA Center, are participating in the event.

The MOCHA Center and the Rochester Victory Alliance are the lead organizers of the event, with Stephaun C. Clipper, prevention programs manager of MOCHA, stating that ending the spread of HIV requires collaboration and compassion from community-based organizations, health service providers, and the community.

The event will feature a variety of entertainment, including skits, theatrical performances, comedy, dance, music (hip-hop, Latino Gospel/Rap, Gospel, theatrical, and jazz), and performances by JB Brown (Emcee), DJ Papito, Big Time & Nathaniel, FuturPointe, Imagen, a jazz ensemble from the Eastman School of Music, Miss Sweet Potato Pie, and The MOCHA All-Stars.

A slideshow of AIDS posters from around the world, collected by retired University of Rochester physician Edward Atwater, M.D., will also be a part of the event. In addition, food will be provided by Fresh Wise, thanks to a donation from Wegmans, and there will be a ticket auction for items provided by local community businesses.

Parking behind the building is free, and the theatre is located on the 8/8X bus route. For up-to-date announcements regarding the event's official programming or entertainment acts, we recommend checking the organizing entities’ websites or social media closer to the event date. This event is a testament to the power of a community coming together to create change and inspire hope in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
