Colon Information Day at City Hospital Solingen: Empowering Colon Health Awareness

On Friday, November 8, 2024, City Hospital Solingen is hosting a Colon Information Day from 10.00 to 17.00 at Hofgarten Solingen, Level 0. This event aims to bring the colon and its common diseases closer to the people of Solingen, providing valuable information about prevention, treatment options, and early detection practices.

The day will begin with a lecture by Prof. Dr. Boris Pfaffenbach at 14.00 - 14.30, focusing on the importance of prevention programs and the significant results achievable through endoscopy in diagnostics and therapy. At 14.30 - 15.00, Prof. Dr. Peter Schenker will discuss surgical techniques used in colon diseases. Later in the day, Dr. Viola Fox will present modern oncology and its role in holistic treatment of colon diseases at 15.00 - 15.30.

Throughout the day, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in guided tours, where head physicians, including Prof. Dr. Boris Pfaffenbach, Prof. Dr. Peter Schenker, and Dr. Viola Fox, will explain their approach to colon diseases. The event will feature information stands from specialized departments and a self-help group for colon diseases.

The seven-meter-long, walk-through colon model will be used to educate attendees about the organ and its diseases, helping to break down societal taboos surrounding the colon. Lectures will cover endoscopic diagnostic and therapeutic methods, colon surgery, and holistic treatment options in oncology.

In addition to these topics, the event will provide education about prevention strategies such as diet, symptom awareness, and early screening. Attendees will also have the chance to learn about treatment options covering medication management, lifestyle changes, and surgical interventions. The schedule includes designated time slots for individual questions during each lecture, allowing for personalised advice and consultation with specialists.

City Hospital Solingen is committed to emphasising the importance of early diagnosis and individualised treatment plans to improve quality of life for patients with colon diseases. This event is an excellent opportunity for those in Solingen to learn more about common colon diseases like inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), diverticular disease, and colon cancer.

For inflammatory bowel diseases such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease, treatment generally includes medications tailored to disease severity and type, dietary modifications, nutritional therapy, and, in severe or unresponsive cases, surgery. Diverticular disease prevention and treatment typically involve a high-fiber diet, medications, and careful management guided by healthcare professionals.

Additional supportive treatments for chronic bowel problems include mindfulness, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and regular exercise, which can improve gastrointestinal symptoms and mental well-being associated with colon diseases.

We encourage everyone in Solingen to attend this informative event and take the first step towards a healthier colon. Early detection and education are key to managing colon diseases effectively.
